Recipients of the Schechter Residency in Educational Leadership Fellowship:

The SREL Fellows

The first recipient of the SREL Fellowship was Rabbi Amanda Brodie who continues to work at Ezra Academy in New Haven, CT.  She is now the Assistant Head of School and School Rabbi.


Rabbi Sheryl Katzman served her three years as a SREL Fellow at the Sager/Skokie Solomon Schechter Day School of Metropolitan Chicago and then served as the Principal of its Middle School. Having recently relocated to West Hartford, CT, she currently serves as a coach in the Benchmarks and Standards for Teaching Torah Project.


Rabbi Shawn SimonHazani, completed his three year term as a SREL Fellow in 2006 and continues as Rav Bet Sefer at the Robert Saligman Middle School of Perelman Jewish Day School.


Rabbi Matthew Bellas was named the SREL Fellow in 2004 and assumed the position of Campus Rabbi at the Brandeis School in Lawrence, NY. He served as the Vice Principal of Judaic Studies/School Rabbi at the Talmud Torah Day School in Vancouver, B.C. before serving as Lower School Principal at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.


The 2005 Fellow, Rabbi Harry Pell, joined the faculty of the Upper School of the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester where he served as Rabbi in Residence before serving as a high school Judaic Studies Teacher and Associate Head of School for Jewish Life and Learning there.


Rabbi Moshe Schwartz, the SREL Fellow named in the spring of 2007, and served as Director of Jewish Life at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Long Island. He is now the Head of School at the Kellman Brown Academy in Voorhees, NJ.


Rabbi Fred Elias serves as the Rabbi-in-Residence at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County in NJ and leads Congregation Kol HaNeshamah in Englewood, NJ.


Rabbi Eve Posen was ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies and is in her second year as the Campus Rabbi at the Ann & Nate Levine Academy in Dallas, TX. Rabbi Eve Posen is now Youth Director & Rabbinic Educator at Congregation Neveh Shalom.


Micah Liben, ordained at JTS in 2011, has been appointed Rabbi-in-Residence at Kellman Brown Academy.


Rabbi Zachary SilverZach Silver joined Rochelle Zell Jewish High School in July 2012 as Rav Beit Sefer (School Rabbi).


Scott ShafrinScott Shafrin is working at the Epstein School in Atlanta as school rabbi.
